Tabernacle Preservation Nooksack Bible Camp: Restoration work State Historic List placement and recognition.

Old Fairhaven: National Registry of Historical Places served on Fairhaven Village Task Force and a Board Member. Instituted National Historic recognition, street lighting, pillars, planters, etc.

Vashon Ferry: Worked on restoration and placement on state architectural list - the 1927 Ferry Museum for service in the San Juans for 40 years.

Terminal Building Fairhaven: Restore 100-year-old streetcar terminal and adjacent property with caboose and coffee service park. Restored total facility from a condemned structure. It is now successfully operating and was placed by Douglas on the State Historical list for recognition.

San Juan County Court House: Pacific Resources, Inc. Joel Douglas awarded a commendation letter for his action on taking a controversial stand in saving the courthouse after a Judge Patrick had sued to have it condemned. Douglas took on restoration contract and documented engineer quality coverage that some officials were trying to conceal.

The structure turned out to be one of the strongest buildings in San Juan County. Pacific Resources, Inc. restored all surfaces and assisted in bringing the case to a vote of the public. The initial cleanup project was in its entirety-funded government by the Pacific Resources, Inc. and Lairmont Foundation who are the owners of Lairmont Manor.

Lairmont Manor: Originally a home for the Larrabee Family, now a public use complex used approximately 200 events yearly. Benefits local foundation and fund raising recipients for about 20% of the events. It is operated by Lairmont Foundation, a private not for profit corporation. This corporation and Harbor Lands Company has placed the facility on the National List for Historical Preservation. The facility has rooms, apartments, offices, and a chapel.

Historical Societies: Joel Douglas is a member of six Historical and Architectural Societies and has served on the Directory Board of the State of Washington Historical Society.

Douglas History: Joel Douglas served in the United States Military approximately three years active duty and reserve duty for 11 years (1960-1971, as a captain in the International Military Police and Military Government.) He was commander of recognized companies who received Division awards for outstanding service to their countries. He served as Assistant Provost Marshal for Yakima Training Center and Fort Gordon Georgia.

Education: Literature Major and Business Minors from University of Washington, Aurora University, and Seattle University, graduate credits of approximately 40 hours in art and business. Medal of Honor Banquet Sponsor, Veteran's Benefit projects and Flag Memorials, (Oak Harbor, Ferndale, San Juan Island, and Bellingham). Douglas is experienced on public works design, framing, construction, roofing, electrical, and plumbing repairs and construction.

Community Service: Douglas served on the Water District, condominium, City appeals Task Force, Republican County Boards, Precinct Committees. He has been a candidate for Public office and was recognized as Whatcom County 1996 Republican of the Year. He has served on private corporation boards and acted as a business consultant on several government contracts. He was active for 26 years and served as President of the Western Washington & British Columbia Conference of Advent Christian Churches for four years.

Business History: Douglas is the company Co-Proprietor of Harbor Lands Company and Pacific Resources Incorporated, Harbor Enterprises, and Coachman Inns. He has been in business for 30 years and serves as an operating officer for Harbor Enterprises, a Family Limited Partnership. Has served on various boards, church and conference offices, and medical mission efforts as well as a Development Consultant.

History: Joel Douglas has completed and participated in numerous projects including Hotels, Inns, homes, dock renovation, marine operations, marine salvage, chandlery, boat restoration, office building construction, asbestos removal contracting, retail sales, consulting to municipalities and hotel chains on efficiency and growth strategies. Gravel removal; earth moving construction, and the development of several Industrial Parks, including the development and current ownership of the largest Whatcom County Industrial Retail Business Park — Grandview Center.

Political Activity: He has been involved in numerous business and political decisions in Whatcom and San Juan County planning growth and zoning issues. (Most in favor of growth and property rights.) As operator of the Coachman Inn the management and owners have taken many efforts or contributed towards the development of tourism.

Flagpole Veterans Project, Restoration and Tourist Center proposals, baseball diamond property, air show, flag project on HWY 20, White Rock conservation exchange sponsor, Solvang preview meeting and downtown efforts. Our Oak Harbor Coachman Inn Manager Marsha Chatman has been recognized as Member of the Year and the Coachman as Firm of the Year by the Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce.

Family: Joel & Barbara Douglas have been married since 1964 and have three children.
